樹液流センサーを挿入するために、テツカエデの幹に小さな穴を開けたのですが、穴から大量の樹液が流れ出てきました。葉はまだ開いてないですし、ほんの2日前に穴を開けた時には、そんなことはなかったのに、何故でしょう？カンバでこうした現象が起こることは有名ですが、改めて考えると不思議な現象です。 ともあれ、これだけ出ていれば飲めそうです。というわけで、ペットボトルのキャップに貯めて飲んでみました。メイプルシロップをすごく薄めた、ほんのり甘い味でした。煮詰めればシロップになりそうです。フィールドワークは大変ですが、こうした野外ならではの体験をできるところがいいところです。次回はひずみゲージの設置に挑戦します。 When I made a hole on trunk of Acer nipponicum for installing sap flow sensors, a lot of sap flowed out from the hole. I know this phenomenon is generally found in Betula trees before bud break, but on thinking it over, it is interesting phenomenon, isn't it? Why trees store such many sap in trunk before bud break? Anyways, amount of sap flowing from the hole was enough for drink. We thus collected sap in cap of PET bottle and drunk it. The flavor was maple syrup diluted in water. Although setting up sap flow system was tough work, this　kind of experience is one of attractive point of field research. We install strain gauge in next time.

先日、南アルプスフィールドの調査に行ってきました。今年は、初めて研究室に学生が来てくれたので、卒論のテーマとして樹木の樹液流観測を本格的に始めることにしました。南アルプスフィールドは樹種の多い森林です。樹液流観測からいろんな樹種の個性（性格）を追求することがそのテーマです。造林と広域研究室の学生にも手伝ってもらって、雨が来る前になんとか予定の半分の機器を設置することができました。明日から、さらにもう半分を設置しにフィールドへ行く予定です。皆さん、初めてなのによくがんばってくれました。お疲れさまでした。センサーづくりなど、準備に1ヶ月以上を費やしてしまいましたが、どんなデータがとれるのか今から楽しみです。同じ場所にある樹木ですが、果たして性格は違うのか？同じなのか？欠損なく測れますように。 I went to South Alps Field yesterday to set up sap flow monitoring system for graduate research of student.Tree species diversity is high in South Alps Field, and thus the main objective of the research is to seek species-specific characteristics from sap flow monitoring throughout seasons.Thanks to help by students in other laboratory, we could set up half of the system before rain. もう1ヶ月以上も前ですが、地域の森林業務に携わる方々を招いて懇談会を開催しました。あいにくの天気だったのですが（今年度は驚くほど雨に祟られました）、40人近い方々にご参加頂いて盛況な会となりました。写真掲載の許可をとっていないので、少ししか様子を紹介できないのですが、掛川森林組合や農林事務所、山林協会の方々にもご参加頂き、新たな交流をできました。静岡大のOBも多く、うれしかったと同時に教育の場にいる責任を改めて感じました。 現地見学会では、もっとおもしろい現場の様子を紹介できるように、現在森林経営計画を立案中です。来年は晴れますように。ご参加頂いた皆さま、ありがとうございました。 Shinto ritual to prey safe of this year's field work and regional exchange meeting & party were held at Tenryu. Although it was rainy day, more than 40 people working at forestry related company and society attended and enjoyed to exchange opinions for forestry, education and so on. さ来週に南アルプス概論で発表予定です。おもしろそうな内容で、私も受講したいです、できることなら。 また、今週末は地域懇談会「山の講」を開催予定です。森林関係するいろんな機関から、たくさんの方々に参加して頂く予定です。天気が心配ですが、なんとか晴れて欲しい・・・ I will make a presentation about beech forest of South Alps field in the week after next. This lecture, entitled Study of South Alps, consists of 10 classes and 10 lecturers from various fields explain features and attractive points of South Alps in Japan. The title of each class is so interesting (sorry in Japanese only), and I also want to attend this lecture if possible.  In the end of week, we hold a party for exchanging opinion and ideas with people who live around Tenryu field and people who work at forest related organization and company in Tenryu region. But, I worry about weather. Weather forecast says it may rain on that day... 

更新がずいぶん滞ってしまいました。あれから色々とあったのですが、これから少しずつお伝えできたらと思います。ちなみに今は一年生を対象とした総合実習の最中です。参加者数なんと44人！宿舎はパンパンで、講義室は若い熱気でムンムンです。 まずは、10月末に行った60周年記念事業から。演習林設立60周年を記念して、南アルプスの植物観察会を行いました。思ったより紅葉が進んでいて心配したのですが、当日は快晴で67人もの方々にご参加頂きました。ありがとうございました！感謝状の贈呈や国有林の解説、室内講義に野外講義、ヒメシャラの記念植樹、蕎麦粒山登山と盛りだくさんの内容でした。いろんな質問を頂いて、森林に関心のある方々がどのようなことを考えているのかを知る良い機会となりました。季節外れのスズタケの花を見つけたら、私の話はそっちのけで、皆さん花を探していました・・・。皆さんの楽しそうな様子を見ると、もっとがんばろうという気持ちになりますね！1月には地域懇親会を計画しているので、これからその準備です。 年末までに今年の出来事をできるだけ紹介したいと思います。 Long time no see. Although there are many things I would like to report, I could not have enough time to update. Now, I am middle of field lecture for 1st year, young students in Tenryu. 44 students took this lecture, and our accommodation is full. 新潟大学の大学院生を対象に、天竜と富士フィールドで3泊4日の実習を行いました。主な目的は（１）樹木生理生態学のアプローチを学習すること、（２）新潟にはない暖温帯広葉樹林や太平洋側ブナ林の特徴を学習することです。ここでは、天竜フィールドで行った、生理生態学実験の様子を紹介したいと思います。樹高6mくらいのヤマハンノキを伐採して光合成や樹皮呼吸を測定し、１本の炭素固定量を計算しました。光の測定法など、うまく伝えられなかった部分もあったのですが、みなさん熱心に取り組んでくれました。途中から、静岡大の留学生グループも参加し、夜には浜松らしく餃子パーティをしました。遠い場所から来てもらうので、今後もそれに見合う充実した内容にしていきたいと思います（初日は、みなさん朝3時に新潟を出発したとか・・・・）。みなさんお疲れ様でした！

海外6カ国7大学の大学院生を対象に、7泊8日の野外実習を行いました。タイのカセサート大、インドネシアのガジャマダ大とボゴール農科大、ベトナムのベトナム林業大、マレーシアのプトラ大、中国の南京林業大、スロベニアのLjubljana大の合計12名です。静岡大からは4名が参加しました。この実習の目的は、日本の森林植生の特徴を学び自国との違いを理解してもらうこと、学生間の国際交流です。静岡大の講師陣は、水永先生、王先生、楢本先生、今泉先生、片畑先生と私の計6名で、森林経営から植生、生態系機能、リモートセンシング、山地保全まで様々なレクチャーを行いました。海外の学生さん達はとても明るく勉強熱心です。日本の学生にはよい刺激になったのではないでしょうか。このセミナーが国際交流の発展へとつながることを願っています。私も英語のスキルを向上させて、来年はもっと楽しいセミナーにしたいと思いました。ここでは、南アルプスと天竜で私が撮影した写真を紹介します。 Field seminar for foreign, master course students was held from 26th Sep to 2nd Oct in all three fields. Twelve students from seven universities in six countries (China, Indonesia, Slovenia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam) participated. Four Japanese students also participated and assisted our seminar. The aim of this seminar is to study characteristics of Japanese forest vegetation, and to promote international exchange.
