生態環境実習

8/21-24 に「生態環境実習」が開催されました。この実習は、東京都市大学の学部生向けに開講されており、今年は環境学部より 20 名の参加がありました。

1 日目・2 日目は土壌と植生についてみっちり学びました。尾根・沢の異なる地形で土壌がどのように異なるかを知るために、土壌断面図の観察に加え、土壌サンプルを採取し透水性試験や pH・電気伝導度の測定を通して、物理化学性を調べました。また、広葉樹二次林での植生調査を通して森林にいろいろな樹木があることを学んだり森林の階層構造を実感したりしてもらいました。暑い中活動するのはたいへんでしたが、地形による土壌のちがいと植生との関連をおもしろく感じた学生が多かったようです。

3 日目はほぼ 1 日雨でしたが、わずかなやみ間で野生動物の調査をしました。シャーマントラップではアカネズミのオス・メスが捕獲されており、実物を見ながら直接観察することができました。また、ピットフォールトラップを用いた節足動物の調査では、広葉樹二次林と人工林で種構成が異なることを学ぶことができました。

4 日目は富士ブランチへ。6 合目付近では樹木限界の植生や生態を、ハイキングコースを下りながら亜高山帯針広混交林の樹種やその生態について学びました。雨に降られながらも天竜とは大きく異なる植生帯での実習は好評でした。

"Practice in Ecology and Environment" was held at the Tenryu and Fuji branches on August 21-24. Twenty undergraduate students from Tokyo City University participated in the practice this year.

On the first and second days, we learned about the relationship between vegetation and soil. In order to understand how soil differs between ridges and valleys, we observed soil profiles and examined physicochemical properties through permeability tests and measurements of pH and electrical conductivity using soil samples. In addition, we learned the variety of tree species in a forest and the hierarchical structure of a forest through a vegetation survey in a secondary broadleaved forest. Although it was hard work in the hot weather, many students found it interesting to see the relationship between topography, soil, and vegetation.

On the third day, we conducted a wildlife survey during the few moments when the rain had stopped. We were able to observe male and female wood mice that were captured in Sherman traps, and learned that the species composition of arthropods differed between the secondary broadleaved forest and cypress plantation by a survey using pitfall traps.

On the fourth day, we went to Fuji Branch, where we learned about the vegetation and ecology of the tree line and subalpine mixed coniferous forests. Despite the rain, the students seemed to enjoy the activities in the vegetation zone, which is very different from that of Tenryu.

ふじのくに学（農林業）

11/22 に天竜ブランチでふじのくに学（農林業）が行われました。 午前は、野生動物による林業被害対策について解説しました。 シカやカモシカが低木の葉を食べる動画を見たり、宿舎周辺で罠やシカ柵の実物を見たりしながら説明しました。 午後は、宿舎周辺でコンテナ苗の植え付けや下刈りについて解説したのち、ヒノキ林で枝打ちと間伐体験を行いました。 斜面で立木を伐倒するたいへんさ、枝打ちをする高さ、切りたてのヒノキのにおいなど実感してもらえたのではないかとおもいます。 みなさん林業とは関わりがうすい学部からの参加ということもあり、 実際に森林で活動することで林業に興味を持つきっかけになっていればうれしいです。 （栗）  On November 22nd, Fuji-no-Kuni-Gaku (Agriculture and Forestry) was held at the Tenryu Branch. In the morning, we learned about measures to mitigate forestry damage caused by wild animals. Using videos of deer and serow feeding on shrub leaves, as well as showing actual traps and deer fences around the lodge, we explained how such damage occurs and how it is managed. In the afternoon, after we explained about planting container seedlings and weeding around the lodge, participants experienced pruning and thinning in a cypress forest. カーボンニュートラル（プレ）実習

次年度から開講予定のカーボンニュートラルフィールドワークに先立ち、主に静岡大学グローバル共創科学部の学生に参加してもらってプレ実習を開催しました。  1日目は、1本のヒノキがどれほどの炭素を蓄積してきたのか、実際に木を伐倒して推定しました。予想より小さい値であったようで、みなさん驚いていました。 2日目には、森林管理が短期的に、あるいは中・長期的にどのような効果をもたらすのかについて、間伐試験地などを見学しながら考える実習を行いました。 二酸化炭素吸収量の維持・増加を目指すために森林が重要という大まかなイメージは皆さんが持っていたものの、 森林管理がもたらす具体的な効果やその効果が現れるまでの時間についてはイメージができていないことが多かったようです。 この実習を通してその辺りの理解を深めていただけたのではないかと思います。  参加者からのフィードバックを参考にして、次年度からの実習をより良い形にしていきたいと思います。 （花） Ahead of the Carbon Neutral Fieldwork course scheduled to begin next academic year, we held a pre-training session, primarily for students in the Faculty of Global Interdisciplinary Science and Innovation at Shizuoka University.
