先日、新潟県の湯沢町の苗場山ブナ試験地へ調査に行ってきました。演習林ではないのですが、いろんな森林で調査することは、視野の広がりを通じて演習林のテーマ再発見につながるので、継続しています。 写真は去年の秋に撮影したものですが、なんとツタがブナに食べられています。ブナも樹齢200年にもなると凶暴になりますね。でもツタの表面が死んでいるとは思えないみずみずしさを感じました。中がどうなっているのか気になります（まさか一体になって利用されているとか・・）。また、樹皮がごつごつしていてブナらしくないですよね？　いつも観察している私ですら、これブナだっけ？と上を見上げることがしばしばあります。長年通っている調査地ですが、訪ねる度にいろんな発見がある、フィールドワークの楽しいところです。 I went to study beech forest around Mt. Naeba in last week. This is not University forest, but I continue this study since I was undergraduate students because apperance of this beech forest is quite different with that of University forest, which gives me many ideas for new study. The photographs were 200 year's old beech in last October at high elevation site. Woody vine was eaten by old beech. Old beech is very violent isn't it? But, surface of the vine looks alive. Is the vine still alive? and is used as a part of beech stem? This kind of experience stir up my imaginations. Although I have been studying in this forest for 15 years, there ...

3回に分けて実施された1年生向けの実習は今日で最後です。合計で96名もの参加がありました。初日に枝打ちや間伐、毎木調査に樹種識別を行い、2日目にオリエンテーリングで地図を持って演習林内を歩き回ってもらいました。やはりみんな若い！6時間も歩き回ったのに大して疲れた様子もなく、まだまだエネルギーが余っているようでした。特に、1日目夜のBBQではあっという間に肉がなくなってしまいました。女子生徒も食べる食べる。次回からはもっとお肉を用意します。でも実習を通してフィールドや森林で学ぶことのおもしろさが少しでも伝わればと思います。HPのほうにも写真を掲載しました（ http://fc-forecol.agr.shizuoka.ac.jp/wordpress/?p=1125 ）。 夜から天気が崩れるようですが、朝には止みますように。 We are now in the middle of field lecture for 1st grade students of Shizuoka University. In all, 96 students participated to the lecture, and thus the lecture was held with separating into three times. This is the last lecture. Today, on first day, students experienced forest management work, such as thinning and branch pruning, and studied how to measure tree size and identification of tree species. Tomorrow is orienteering competition to train map-reading skill. In last lecture, although students walked around University forest for 6 hours, they seemed to be not tired. 昨日に引き続き、公開実習のお知らせです。8月27日から3泊4日で静岡大学のフィールドを巡り森林生態系と保全について学ぶ野外実習を行います。静岡大学のセールスポイントは暖温帯の常緑広葉樹林から富士山の樹木限界まで、いろんな森林植生を見て学べる点です！協定校以外の学生さんも参加可能ですので、森林生態系に興味がある学生さんは是非エントリーしてください（協定校以外の単位認定については修了書を発行しますので、自身の大学とと相談してください）。詳しくは全演協のホームページをチェック！皆さんの参加をお待ちしています！ PS・先週から一年生に向けたフィールド科学演習IIを3回に分けて行っていますが、スタッフ総出のため写真を撮る人員がおらず、様子を伝えられません。今回は森林のことだけでなく、地図判読やオリエンテーリングを交えて、楽しみながら科学的な視点で自然や樹木、森を見る能力を身につけてもらおうと画策しています。もし、写真がとれれば、またその様子をお伝えします。ではー。 We will hold an open field seminar about forest preservation from 27th to 30th Aug. You can study characteristics and preservation skill for various forest ecosystem in Japan with traveling 3 forest fields in Shizuoka University. 今年も、大学の森林系技術職員の仕事、伐採や搬出など林業の現場業務、工場における製材と加工まで、森林に関する様々な業務を一貫して体験できるインターンシップを行います。林産業の現場体験は地元の企業（（有）天竜フォレスター、（株）フジイチ）の協力を得ています。自然の中で働く仕事に興味のある学生さんは是非。質問等はポスターにあるメールアドレスまで。みなさんのご応募お待ちしています。 Our section hold an internship program for students interesting in forest-related work. You can experience various work from forest preservation in university, to management and sawing in the company (Tenryu forester, Fujiich). This is a good chance to experience forest related works comprehensively. Application deadline is the end of June. If you have any questions, please send e-mail to the address in attached poster. 樹液流センサーを挿入するために、テツカエデの幹に小さな穴を開けたのですが、穴から大量の樹液が流れ出てきました。葉はまだ開いてないですし、ほんの2日前に穴を開けた時には、そんなことはなかったのに、何故でしょう？カンバでこうした現象が起こることは有名ですが、改めて考えると不思議な現象です。 ともあれ、これだけ出ていれば飲めそうです。というわけで、ペットボトルのキャップに貯めて飲んでみました。メイプルシロップをすごく薄めた、ほんのり甘い味でした。煮詰めればシロップになりそうです。フィールドワークは大変ですが、こうした野外ならではの体験をできるところがいいところです。次回はひずみゲージの設置に挑戦します。 When I made a hole on trunk of Acer nipponicum for installing sap flow sensors, a lot of sap flowed out from the hole. I know this phenomenon is generally found in Betula trees before bud break, but on thinking it over, it is interesting phenomenon, isn't it? Why trees store such many sap in trunk before bud break? Anyways, amount of sap flowing from the hole was enough for drink. We thus collected sap in cap of PET bottle and drunk it. The flavor was maple syrup diluted in water. Although setting up sap flow system was tough work, this　kind of experience is one of attractive point of field research. We install strain gauge in next time.

先日、南アルプスフィールドの調査に行ってきました。今年は、初めて研究室に学生が来てくれたので、卒論のテーマとして樹木の樹液流観測を本格的に始めることにしました。南アルプスフィールドは樹種の多い森林です。樹液流観測からいろんな樹種の個性（性格）を追求することがそのテーマです。造林と広域研究室の学生にも手伝ってもらって、雨が来る前になんとか予定の半分の機器を設置することができました。明日から、さらにもう半分を設置しにフィールドへ行く予定です。皆さん、初めてなのによくがんばってくれました。お疲れさまでした。センサーづくりなど、準備に1ヶ月以上を費やしてしまいましたが、どんなデータがとれるのか今から楽しみです。同じ場所にある樹木ですが、果たして性格は違うのか？同じなのか？欠損なく測れますように。 I went to South Alps Field yesterday to set up sap flow monitoring system for graduate research of student.Tree species diversity is high in South Alps Field, and thus the main objective of the research is to seek species-specific characteristics from sap flow monitoring throughout seasons.Thanks to help by students in other laboratory, we could set up half of the system before rain. We will go to filed tomorrow to accomplish another half. Students worked a lot even though they were beginner of sap flow measurements.
