南アルプスブランチで林道を歩いているとなにやら気配を感じたので、様子を伺っているとアナグマが走ってやってきました。何かに追われていたのか、こちらを気にするでもなく私とすれ違い、そのまま走り去っていきました。走る様子がとてもコミカルで良い感じです。 ちなみに私が普段勤務している天竜地域の方は、アナグマのことを猯（マミ）と呼ぶそうです。当初は「マミー」と聞いて、エジプトのミイラ的なものことを連想していましたが、愛読しているマンガの中で猯穴（まみあな）という表現が出てきて初めてその語彙を知り、合点がいきました。他にも地域によって様々な俗称があるようです。 （宇） I came across a Japanese badger (Meles anakuma) in the South Alps Branch. 南アルプスブランチでは、秋にマユミのお花見を楽しむことができます・・・といっても実はこれは花ではなくて、果実なのです（マユミ・・・ニシキギ科ニシキギ属：Euonymus hamiltonianus）。遠目にはあたかも満開の梅の花のような様相を呈します。この地域のマユミは、カエデ類等の紅葉が始まる頃に落葉し果実が目立つようになります。そのため紅葉の色づきが遅めの年には、このマユミが林の中で一足先に華やかな存在になります。付近では、山犬段広場や大札山登山口などで大きめの個体を観察することができます。 （宇） Fruit of Euonymus hamiltonianus looks like a flower of plum from a distance. Trees of this species shed their leaves, making their fruit conspicuous, when those of other species (such as maple trees) start to turn red. We can see large trees around the Yamainudan and the trailhead of Mt. Sobatsubu. Usami

南アルプスブランチでは、以前紹介したイワシャジンに替わるように、リンドウやキク科の花が開花を迎えます。 色が似ているので紛らわしいのですが、紫色の花はイワシャジンからリンドウへと開花のピークが入れ替わります（リンドウ・・・リンドウ科リンドウ属： Gentiana scabra）。紫色でこの時期に咲く花としてトリカブトもあるのですが、土砂崩れや治山工事の影響で蕎麦粒山周辺では少し数が減っています。 また、リュウノウギクが南赤石林道のいたるところで群落を形成します（リュウノウギク・・・キク科キク属： Chrysanthemum makinoi）。生育環境がよほど適しているらしく、林道蕎麦粒線沿いでは年々その数が増えています。 （宇） Flowers of Gentianaceae and Asteraceae start to bloom in the South Alps Branch. Flowers of Gentiana scabra and Adenophora takedae are purple, and the peak bloom of Gentiana scabra follow that of Adenophora takedae. Flowers of Aconitum are purple too, but the number of individuals are declining due to landslides and the work for forest disaster prevention. We can also see communities of Chrysanthemum makinoi. The number of individuals are increasing possibly because of the suitable habitat for the species. Usami

先週の土日に天竜ブランチでフィールド科学演習 II が実施されました（http://fc-forecol.agr.shizuoka.ac.jp/wordpress/?p=1125）。 今年度は日帰り実習で、農学部の 1 年生約 40 人が参加しました。午前は、動物による腐肉食と動物遺体の分解について学びました。カメラで撮影された、タヌキがネズミ遺体を食べる様子や、ピットフォールトラップで捕まえたヨツボシモンシデムシを見ることができました。午後は、枝打ちや薪割り・チェーンソー利用を体験したり、森林調査のためのドローン操縦を体験したりしました。 1 日目は雨で、2 日目は風が強く、肌寒い中での実習になりましたが、日帰りながらも充実した実習になったとおもいます。 （栗） Practice of Field science II was held at the Tenryu Branch last weekend (http://fc-forecol.agr.shizuoka.ac.jp/wordpress/?p=1125&lang=en). Forty 1st year students from the Faculty of Agriculture participated in the practice. In the morning, we learned about animal scavenging and decomposition of animal carcasses in forest ecosystems. We saw movies (photographed by automatic cameras) in which a raccoon dog fed on a mouse carcass and burying beetles (Nicrophorus quadripunctatus) caught in pitfall traps.
