  先週、マレーシアへ実習参加と講義のために行ってきました。熱帯林と雲霧林とマングローブ林を巡って楽しかった！今は時間がないので、詳細はまた後日に報告します。とりあえず写真をいくつかお見せします。 I went to Malaysia in the last week to join the field lecture. We have visited lowland dry tropical forest, cloud high forest and mangrove forest. We have pleasant experiences not only for forests but also for foods and culture with traveling around. Here I show some of the pictures. Content of the lecture will be reported later.

南アルプスフィールドでは、樹液流を計測するためにいろんな観測機器を設置しているのですが、その隙間からネズミが侵入して子供をつくります。今年も10本近くのセンサーを噛みきられました。対策をしているのですが、すごく小さな隙間からも入るのですよね・・・・かわいいんですけどね。 Battle with mouse I install many instruments for sap flow measurement in South Alps field. But, mice often invade into the instruments like this movie and make babies. They bite cables and break sensors. I make barrier, but they can invade from very small gap. They are very cute, but are trouble maker for field study.

お久しぶりです。ずいぶんと更新が滞ってしまいました。7月の東海大学の実習を紹介してからは、1～2週間毎に実習やイベントがあるタフな夏で、報告する時間をなかなか作ることができませんでした。もうかなり寒くなりましたが、夏の森林保全学実習から順番に振り返っていきたいと思います。 森林保全学実習　8/27～30 全国の大学から学生公募して、天竜、南アルプス、富士フィールドを巡り、森林保全を学ぶ実習です。今年は、7大学から15人の学生が参加してくれました。大きな流れは昨年と同じですが、ドローンやレーザースキャナーを新たに利用するなど、各メニューを工夫しています。ライトセンサスはコースによってシカの頭数がかなり異なったため、観察コースづくりは来年の課題ですね・・・。雨続きだった富士山もくっきりと見ることができて、楽しく学習してもらえたのではないかと思います。来年もさらなる内容の充実を図るので、皆さん来てくださいねー。 Long time no see. We have held six field lectures and events until Novemeber and thus could not make a time to report. Although winter is comming in Japan, I would like to introduce the lectures in turn. First is a field lecture for forest preservation held in the end of August. This is an open lecture that students in every University can participate. In this year, there was 15 students' entry from seven University. We have visited three fields that had contrast vegetation and that convered all of reperesentative forest vegetation in Japan. 先月末に今年初めての学外向け実習を行いました。この実習では山と河川の物質循環を説明しています。山では炭素や窒素循環の植生や地形による違いを、河川では土砂などの物質が輸送されるメカニズムを説明しました。写真は事務所近くにある阿多古川において、河川の流量を測定している様子です。今年は水量が少なくて測定しやすかったです（昨年度は下半身がずぶ濡れになった学生さんがいました）。山では、前年に詰め込み過ぎたという反省点を活かして、尾根にある人工林と天然林を比較するというシンプルなデザインにしました。山と河川でそれぞれ約2時間という短い時間で、いかにおもしろく、かつ重要なポイントを外さないか、という点で頭を悩ませます。山では学生がもっと手を動かして目では見えにくい物質の流れをしっかりと実感できる内容にしていきたいと思います。 Lecture for field work of environmental science was held at Tenryu field on 29th July for undergraduate students of Tokai University. We have explained material flow in forest and in river. The aim of lecture in forest is to understand difference in material by vegetation type, environment and geography. We thus have visited hinoki cypress plantation and natural forest on mountain ridge, and have studied carbon and nutrient cycle at each site by measuring soil pH, soil hardiness and by watching soil profile, result of litter bag experiment and amount of leaf litter. 先日、新潟県の湯沢町の苗場山ブナ試験地へ調査に行ってきました。演習林ではないのですが、いろんな森林で調査することは、視野の広がりを通じて演習林のテーマ再発見につながるので、継続しています。 写真は去年の秋に撮影したものですが、なんとツタがブナに食べられています。ブナも樹齢200年にもなると凶暴になりますね。でもツタの表面が死んでいるとは思えないみずみずしさを感じました。中がどうなっているのか気になります（まさか一体になって利用されているとか・・）。また、樹皮がごつごつしていてブナらしくないですよね？　いつも観察している私ですら、これブナだっけ？と上を見上げることがしばしばあります。長年通っている調査地ですが、訪ねる度にいろんな発見がある、フィールドワークの楽しいところです。 I went to study beech forest around Mt. Naeba in last week. This is not University forest, but I continue this study since I was undergraduate students because apperance of this beech forest is quite different with that of University forest, which gives me many ideas for new study. The photographs were 200 year's old beech in last October at high elevation site. Woody vine was eaten by old beech. Old beech is very violent isn't it? But, surface of the vine looks alive. 3回に分けて実施された1年生向けの実習は今日で最後です。合計で96名もの参加がありました。初日に枝打ちや間伐、毎木調査に樹種識別を行い、2日目にオリエンテーリングで地図を持って演習林内を歩き回ってもらいました。やはりみんな若い！6時間も歩き回ったのに大して疲れた様子もなく、まだまだエネルギーが余っているようでした。特に、1日目夜のBBQではあっという間に肉がなくなってしまいました。女子生徒も食べる食べる。次回からはもっとお肉を用意します。でも実習を通してフィールドや森林で学ぶことのおもしろさが少しでも伝わればと思います。HPのほうにも写真を掲載しました（ http://fc-forecol.agr.shizuoka.ac.jp/wordpress/?p=1125 ）。 夜から天気が崩れるようですが、朝には止みますように。 We are now in the middle of field lecture for 1st grade students of Shizuoka University. In all, 96 students participated to the lecture, and thus the lecture was held with separating into three times. This is the last lecture. Today, on first day, students experienced forest management work, such as thinning and branch pruning, and studied how to measure tree size and identification of tree species. Tomorrow is orienteering competition to train map-reading skill. In last lecture, although students walked around University forest for 6 hours, they seemed to be not tired.
