生態環境実習

8/19-22 に「生態環境実習」が開催されました。この実習は、東京都市大学の学部生向けに開講されており、今年は環境学部より 18 名の参加がありました。

1 日目は富士ブランチへ。5 合目付近では樹木限界の植生や生態を、ハイキングコースを下りながら亜高山帯針広混交林の樹種やその生態について学びました。雲はかかっていたものの、宝永火口付近で雲が晴れ、植生をよく観察することができました。

2 日目は照葉樹林の植生について学びました。午前中は観音の森で採取したサンプルを使って、室内で樹種同定に取り組みました。それをふまえて、午後からは観音の森で植生調査を行い、森林の階層構造を学びました。

3 日目午前は、土壌と植生の関係について学びました。土壌断面図の観察や pH・電気伝導度の測定、植生の観察を行い、尾根・沢で土壌が大きく異なること、それに伴い植生やヒノキの成長にも違いが出ることを学びました。午後からはギャップ試験地と SSS を見学し、環境に配慮した人工林管理や広葉樹誘導における動物の役割について解説しました。

4 日目は野生動物の調査を行いました。シャーマントラップではアカネズミのオスが捕獲され、実物を見ながら森林におけるアカネズミの働きについて解説することができました。ピットフォールトラップを用いた節足動物の調査では、前日の雨と連日の暑さのせいか、成果はイマイチでしたが、なんとか森林タイプの影響を考察できそうなデータを得ることができました。

かわらず天竜が暑かったこともあり、後半 3 日間はさすがにみなさんお疲れのようでしたが、最後まで粘り強く取り組んでくれました。その分、富士山の植生だけでなく、照葉樹林を構成する樹種や土壌と植生の関わりについても興味深く感じてもらえたようです。

"Practice in Ecology and Environment" was held at the Tenryu and Fuji branches on August 19-22. Eighteen undergraduate students from Tokyo City University participated in the practice this year.

On the first day, we went to Fuji Branch, where we learned about the vegetation and ecology of the tree line and subalpine mixed coniferous forests. The clouds cleared near the Hoei Crater and we were able to get a good look at the vegetation.

On the second day, we learned the variety of tree species in a forest and the hierarchical structure of a forest through a vegetation survey in a secondary broadleaved forest.

On the third day, we learned about the relationship between vegetation and soil. In order to understand how soil differs between ridges and valleys, we observed soil profiles, examined physicochemical properties through measurements of pH and electrical conductivity using soil samples, and also observed vegetation and measured the growth of Hinoki trees.

On the last day, we conducted a wildlife survey in the forest. We were able to observe a male wood mice that were captured in Sherman traps, and learned that the species composition of arthropods differed between the secondary broadleaved forest and cypress plantation by a survey using pitfall traps.

The weather in Tenryu was hot in this week, too, so everyone seemed tired during the latter half of the three days, but they worked hard until the end of the practice. It seems that many students found it interesting to see the relationship between topography, soil, and vegetation as well as the vegetation around Mt. Fuji.

ふじのくに学（農林業）

11/22 に天竜ブランチでふじのくに学（農林業）が行われました。 午前は、野生動物による林業被害対策について解説しました。 シカやカモシカが低木の葉を食べる動画を見たり、宿舎周辺で罠やシカ柵の実物を見たりしながら説明しました。 午後は、宿舎周辺でコンテナ苗の植え付けや下刈りについて解説したのち、ヒノキ林で枝打ちと間伐体験を行いました。 斜面で立木を伐倒するたいへんさ、枝打ちをする高さ、切りたてのヒノキのにおいなど実感してもらえたのではないかとおもいます。 みなさん林業とは関わりがうすい学部からの参加ということもあり、 実際に森林で活動することで林業に興味を持つきっかけになっていればうれしいです。 （栗）  On November 22nd, Fuji-no-Kuni-Gaku (Agriculture and Forestry) was held at the Tenryu Branch. In the morning, we learned about measures to mitigate forestry damage caused by wild animals. Using videos of deer and serow feeding on shrub leaves, as well as showing actual traps and deer fences around the lodge, we explained how such damage occurs and how it is managed. In the afternoon, after we explained about planting container seedlings and weeding around the lodge, participants experienced pruning and thinning in a cypress forest. カーボンニュートラル（プレ）実習

次年度から開講予定のカーボンニュートラルフィールドワークに先立ち、主に静岡大学グローバル共創科学部の学生に参加してもらってプレ実習を開催しました。  1日目は、1本のヒノキがどれほどの炭素を蓄積してきたのか、実際に木を伐倒して推定しました。予想より小さい値であったようで、みなさん驚いていました。 2日目には、森林管理が短期的に、あるいは中・長期的にどのような効果をもたらすのかについて、間伐試験地などを見学しながら考える実習を行いました。 二酸化炭素吸収量の維持・増加を目指すために森林が重要という大まかなイメージは皆さんが持っていたものの、 森林管理がもたらす具体的な効果やその効果が現れるまでの時間についてはイメージができていないことが多かったようです。 この実習を通してその辺りの理解を深めていただけたのではないかと思います。  参加者からのフィードバックを参考にして、次年度からの実習をより良い形にしていきたいと思います。 （花） Ahead of the Carbon Neutral Fieldwork course scheduled to begin next academic year, we held a pre-training session, primarily for students in the Faculty of Global Interdisciplinary Science and Innovation at Shizuoka University.
