野生植物生態学特論

新潟大学の学生さんを対象に、野生植物生態学特論を行いました。各フィールドの植生の観察やフラックスサイトの見学、光合成・水ポテンシャルの測定を行いました。ここでは、南アルプスフィールド、天竜フィールドでの実習内容を紹介します。太平洋側の植生は新潟大のみなさんが普段研究している日本海側とは、種類や構造がずいぶんと違うようで、みなさん驚かれていました。私も改めて日本海側の植生を観察し直したいと思いました。

The field seminar entitled "Wild plant ecology" was conducted for the 1st grade mater course students from Niigata University, from 2th to 5th October 2013. We have visited Fuji, South Alps and Tenryu field, and explained characteristics of forest vegetations in Pacific ocean side, which is markedly different with those in Japan sea side where field station of Niigata University locates. Also, lecture for measurement of photosynthesis and water potential was held in Tenryu field. Here, I introduce lecture held in South Alps and Tenryu field.


南アルプスフィールドでの植生調査の様子１：　みなさん樹種に詳しく、とても早いペースで植生調査が進みました。Investigation of vegetation (species name and tree height) in South Alps field: Although there were many tree species, they knew species name very well and the investigation was finished earlier than my expectation.

南アルプスフィールドでの植生調査の様子２：スズタケが林床を覆っているため、プロットの範囲を示す杭を見つけるのに一苦労でした。Because the plot was covered with dense Sasa (Sasamorpha borealis), it was hard to find pegs which indicate border of the plot.

シカの食害によって枯れたウラジロモミ（南アルプスフィールド）：八丁段のブナ－ウラジロモミが優占する林。ウラジロモミがなくなると植生はどのように変化するのでしょうか。Dead Abies homolepis due to bark stripping by Sika deer. In South Alps field, many Abies trees were died in this five years. Feeding damage by Sika will change species composition of forests if we ignore this situation. We plan to establish protection fence and net in this autumn.

アサノハカエデ Acer argutum There are many Acer trees in this forest.

大規模崩壊地ホウキナギ（南アルプスフィールド）：直前まで濃い霧で何も見えなかったのですが、幸運なことに帰る間際に霧が晴れて、崩壊地を観察することができました。Huge land slide, Houkinagi. The fog cleared fortunately when we saw the land slide.

水ポテンシャルの測定（天竜フィールド）：10/5の午前はこれまでと一転して、室内で生理特性の室内講義（光合成・水ポテンシャル測定）を行いました。Lecture for tree physiology (photosynthesis and leaf water potential) was held in the morning on 5th Oct (in lecture room of Tenryu field).

ヒノキ林縁効果の調査試験地の見学（天竜フィールド）In the afternoon, we observed forests in Tenryu field. They are watching canopy access tower in Hinoki plantation.

常緑広葉樹林の観察（天竜フィールド）：ここでも日本海側にはあまり見られない種を紹介しながら、植生の説明を行いました。Secondary forest dominated by evergreen-broad leaf species. Prof. Mizunaga explained characteristics of tree species with comparing those in Japan sea side.

ふじのくに学（農林業）

11/22 に天竜ブランチでふじのくに学（農林業）が行われました。 午前は、野生動物による林業被害対策について解説しました。 シカやカモシカが低木の葉を食べる動画を見たり、宿舎周辺で罠やシカ柵の実物を見たりしながら説明しました。 午後は、宿舎周辺でコンテナ苗の植え付けや下刈りについて解説したのち、ヒノキ林で枝打ちと間伐体験を行いました。 斜面で立木を伐倒するたいへんさ、枝打ちをする高さ、切りたてのヒノキのにおいなど実感してもらえたのではないかとおもいます。 みなさん林業とは関わりがうすい学部からの参加ということもあり、 実際に森林で活動することで林業に興味を持つきっかけになっていればうれしいです。 （栗）  On November 22nd, Fuji-no-Kuni-Gaku (Agriculture and Forestry) was held at the Tenryu Branch. In the morning, we learned about measures to mitigate forestry damage caused by wild animals. Using videos of deer and serow feeding on shrub leaves, as well as showing actual traps and deer fences around the lodge, we explained how such damage occurs and how it is managed. In the afternoon, after we explained about planting container seedlings and weeding around the lodge, participants experienced pruning and thinning in a cypress forest. カーボンニュートラル（プレ）実習

次年度から開講予定のカーボンニュートラルフィールドワークに先立ち、主に静岡大学グローバル共創科学部の学生に参加してもらってプレ実習を開催しました。  1日目は、1本のヒノキがどれほどの炭素を蓄積してきたのか、実際に木を伐倒して推定しました。予想より小さい値であったようで、みなさん驚いていました。 2日目には、森林管理が短期的に、あるいは中・長期的にどのような効果をもたらすのかについて、間伐試験地などを見学しながら考える実習を行いました。 二酸化炭素吸収量の維持・増加を目指すために森林が重要という大まかなイメージは皆さんが持っていたものの、 森林管理がもたらす具体的な効果やその効果が現れるまでの時間についてはイメージができていないことが多かったようです。 この実習を通してその辺りの理解を深めていただけたのではないかと思います。  参加者からのフィードバックを参考にして、次年度からの実習をより良い形にしていきたいと思います。 （花） Ahead of the Carbon Neutral Fieldwork course scheduled to begin next academic year, we held a pre-training session, primarily for students in the Faculty of Global Interdisciplinary Science and Innovation at Shizuoka University.
