いよいよ春本番ですね．演習林ではツツジの植栽を行いました． 送電線わきの森林はストーム時の倒木によりライフラインに影響を及ぼす事例が最近の気象災害時に生じています．演習林内の道路わきのヒノキ林の中を送電線が通っています．この送電線を含む一帯の間伐を実施する年となりました． 今年は，送電線沿いの樹木をベルト状に伐採し 4 種のツツジ（シブカワツツジ、モチツツジ、ヤマツツジ、コバノミツバツツジ）を植栽しました．遺伝子攪乱にも配慮し，すべて静岡県西部の地域性苗です． ツツジを選定した理由は、 低木で将来にわたり送電線に被害を及ぼさないこと 乾燥土壌（乾性黄褐系褐色森林土）でありツツジの適地であること 花が楽しめるので，地元の人に楽しんでもらえそうなこと ツツジの仲間の分類の学習の場所となる ことです． 北向き斜面で日当たりは心配ですが，近くにも自生しているので大丈夫でしょう． 今年の花は難しいかもしれませんが，来年，地域の人の目を楽しませることができたらと思っています （水・矢） We cut down the trees along the power lines and planted four species of azaleas (Rhododendron sanctum var. lasiogynum, Rhododendron macrosepalum, Rhododendron obutsum var. kaempferi, Rhododendron reticulatum) in our forest. We chose azaleas because (1) they are shrubs that will not cause damage to the power lines in the future, (2) the soil is dry and suitable for azaleas, (3) local people can enjoy the beautiful flowers, and (4) it will be a place to learn about the classification of azalea species. 演習林内ではサクラだけでなく、キブシ・クロモジ・ヒサカキなどの花も咲いているのを見つけました。 （加, 2021/3/15） Other trees (Stachyurus praecox, Lindera umbellata var. umbellata, and Eurya japonica var. japonica), as well as cherry trees, are blooming in our forest. Kagami (2021/3/15)

桜が咲いていました。ソメイヨシノとマメザクラを掛け合わせたもので、ほかの桜とともに事務所敷地内に植えられています。この桜はタグを止める針金を巻き込んだまま大きくなってしまい、そのためか針金より上の枝だけ早く咲くようになってしまいました。 （加, 2021/3/17） Cherry blossoms are starting to bloom. 2月22日に恒例の演習林見学会を開催しました． 例年ですと，山の講に引き続いての見学会及び懇談会そして宴の流れになるのですが，コロナ禍の現状ではそうもいかず，見学会だけの行事となりました． 当日は13名の方に参加いただきました．3月下旬並みの暖かさで，つい私の山での話もあちこちに脱線する見学会となりました．参加いただいた皆さん，多くの質問ありがとうございました． （水） On February 22, we held a tour for our experimental forest. In past years, we would have a lecture followed by a field trip and a banquet, but in this year we decided to have only the field trip because of the corona disaster.
